Discover intricate LEGO® civilisations thriving inside treasured objects from our past. A vintage refrigerator becomes a cryogenic health resort, a typewriter transforms into a newspaper headquarters, and a Volkswagen Beetle houses an energy revolution—each with hundreds of hidden stories waiting to be uncovered.

Exhibition Highlights:

  • 14 immersive displays combining vintage objects with intricate worlds built from LEGO® bricks
  • Created by LEGO® Masters winners Jackson Harvey and Alex Towler
  • Layered storytelling that rewards curious minds of all ages with details and discoveries
  • Interactive build area where you can create and display your own model using LEGO® bricks
  • Custom scavenger hunt with different versions for children and adults

This is not your typical exhibition. RELICS: A New World Rises is an immersive art experience that's equal parts nostalgic and thought-provoking - what Co-Creator Jackson Harvey describes as "the love child between an antique shop, The LEGO® Movie, and Blade Runner."

Don’t miss this extraordinary exhibition where forgotten objects and LEGO® brick creations tell tales of a possible future.

FAQ

While RELICS features LEGO® bricks, it is not an official LEGO® event. The exhibition is independently created by LEGO® Masters Australia winners Jackson Harvey and Alex Towler. LEGO® is a trademark of the LEGO Group of companies which does not sponsor, authorise or endorse this exhibition.

RELICS is designed for curious minds of all ages — from older kids to lifelong LEGO® fans. While there's a hands-on play area for children, the storytelling and intricate displays may be best enjoyed by kids aged 5 and up. Children of all ages must be supervised at all times in the build room as LEGO® can be swallowed

The exhibition is due to open at the Australian Museum on Saturday 16 August 2025 and will run until Tuesday 27 January 2026.

Yes, although no commercial photography is allowed.

For a more relaxed visit, we recommend coming on weekday afternoons outside of school holidays and public holidays — they're usually our quietest times.

We recommend allowing 50-70 minutes for your exhibition visit.

The AM is committed to providing an inclusive and accessible experience for all visitors.

RELICS has been designed to be physically and visually accessible for visitors. There is enough room to navigate prams, wheelchairs and other mobility devices through the space, and is accessible via a lift for anyone unable to use the escalator into the basement exhibition hall. There is an audio descriptive tour available via a QR code in the exhibition for any visitors who may need to access it on their own devices.

There is ambient lighting and some ambient soundscape in the exhibition. The AM will host a special Early Birds: Autism and Sensory-friendly morning event for RELICS where lighting and sound will be adjusted for a low sensory experience with the rest of the Museum.

The Australian Museum has wheelchair accessible entrances marked on the Museum Map and a range of accessible services and programs, including Audio Descriptive tours that you can access on your own mobile device.

Assistance animals that are specifically trained and accredited to assist people with disabilities under the relevant state or territory law are welcome to enter the museum. The AM may require proof of accreditation upon entry.

More information on the Museum’s accessibility features can be found here.

Food and beverages are not permitted in our galleries or exhibition spaces to ensure the preservation of our important collections. This includes water bottles.

Our cloaking room is located on Lower Ground (LG) and is open during business hours. The AM reserves the right to close the cloakroom without notice.

Please do not bring bags larger than A3 size, carry-on luggage, wheeled shopping carts, long umbrellas, scooters, balance bikes, tripods, selfie sticks or bulky items to the AM as you may be denied entry.

For more information on prohibited items, please refer to the Terms of Entry.

Please ensure items are collected from the cloakroom ten minutes before closing.

Due to space, potential crowding and valuable displays, we prefer prams are not taken into the exhibition and pram parking is available in designated areas throughout the Museum. However, we understand there may be extenuating circumstances for some of our visitors so can accommodate this to a degree.

Great news! The Relics exhibition has been created out of recycled LEGO® bricks wherever possible. The exhibition will travel to other locations and so the same bricks and elements will also be reused in each new venue.
